Project
For Nesse’s (Terneuzen, NL) first presentation project, members of Constructlab Belgium were invited to participate in a research trajectory within the residency Being In the World, which focuses on developing permanent infrastructures in Nesse. From 4 to 12 October 2024, Constructlab worked on the project Setting The Table, collaborating with the Zeeuws-Vlaamse community during a week filled with workshops and discussions. Together, they created essential objects for communal dining: chairs, stools, tables, ceramics, and tablecloths.
A fresh sea breeze blows through the streets of Terneuzen. The designers and artists of Constructlab have gathered at the ABC complex to realize the Setting the Table project together with the residents of Terneuzen.
As the bags of clay are carried inside, the first curious residents peek around the corner. Before they can ask any questions, they are handed a welcoming cup of coffee.
We ask ourselves what dining together means. What elements are involved, and how can we make them collective in a unique way? For five days, five workshops form a lively scene on the square. The result is Nesse’s new kitchen.
At the end of the workshop week, everyone is invited to dinner. Aslı Hatipoğlu has collected local ingredients to create a special meal, including seaweed, clay potatoes, and black carrots. While the guests enjoy the food, Ries de Vuyst, Brother Dieleman, and T.J. Bolwerk will perform their musical compositions, and city poet Ingeborg Haalboom will share poems. The next day, all objects will be moved to Nesse’s kitchen.
