As part of a partnership with the Constructlab network and the Luluberlu festival at Odyssud, students from the Architecture Capable workshop at ENSA Toulouse invite young and old alike, from Friday, May 29, through Sunday, May 31, to take part in a design-and-build workshop centered on an iconic model of free design.

Using the manual as a guide, the architecture students worked to transform available resources from other projects into modules for building the “super chair” and its accessories. During the first phase of construction, they turned the battens into a kit to be assembled.

With the theme “Enchanted, Under Construction,”- Enchanté, en chantier –, the Luluberlu festival invites us to put on our boots and imagine an enchanted world, seen through children’s eyes, where we’ll “give pride of place to poetic DIY, joyful building, huts of ideas, and utopias made of soft wood.” Invited by the Odyssud team, Constructlab team is bringing its WOWs, or “workshops on wheels,” to co-design and co-build various structures inspired by an iconic model of free design: the Super Chair by American designer Ken Isaacs. Throughout the weekend, members of the Constructlab network and students from the Architecture Capable workshop (led by Joanne Pouzenc and Ariane Caillaud) will explore reuse in design—the reuse of both ideas and materials—on an “almost 1:1” scale, by building child-sized structures with recycled materials, together with the children, as part of an approach to sharing knowledge through experience. Here, the construction site is no longer just a space for building; it becomes a space for collective empowerment.
