PlatzBankErgänzung (SquareBenchAddition) was a two day building workshop as part of the model project Urban Wilderness, transforming the square in front of the future Pina Bausch Zentrum in Wuppertal through collective gardening, construction, dance and play. Together with friends and neighbors from Wuppertal, the existing benches on the square in front of the future Pina Bausch Zentrum were enhanced and modified, making the space more comfortable and playful.

The collective process started on the drawing board: Each participant selected one of the existing concrete benches and designed their own addition to it. The mission: more comfort, new shapes, a change of perspectives and new uses entirely. Through collective creativity and action, the underused public square turns into an agora, a stage, a parcours.

As part of the model project Urban Wilderness, the building workshop PlatzBankErgänzung acted as a first step towards the participatory redevelopment of the square in front of Pina Bausch Zentrum. The Pina Bausch Zentrum is currently in development as a center for international arts and culture, moving into the former building of the Wuppertal Theater. In correspondence to this development, the Urban Wilderness project aims at creating more green, cooling and communal spaces on the square through further co-productive activations to follow in the coming months!
