João Gonçalo Lopes has a master degree in architecture and works on the borders between art, design and education. Having worked in renowned architectural offices in different parts of the world, he currently works with a hands-on approach on scales ranging from urban design to art installation, furniture design and scenography. With a context-based attitude, his work is rooted in collaboration, focussing on the ecology of materials as a means of achieving ecologically conscious and interconnected realities. His practice investigates spaces and objects as mediators, promoting open and horizontal structures of relationship. As a founding member of the Colectivo Til, he has been developing exploratory processes and interventions with different communities that question the notions of mediation, power and participation in the public sphere. He regularly collaborates with other arts and disciplines where he explores the encounter between material realities and their social, narrative and performative extrapolations.
